PLIÉRS, PORTÉS, AND PRATFALLS!
Three Shows Only at Toronto’s Winter Garden Theatre
February 10-12, 2011

It has been three long years since Toronto last experienced the infamous sui generis that is LES BALLETS TROCKADERO DE MONTE CARLO. For nearly 40 years THE TROCKS have performed their spellbinding display of classical and contemporary ballet, in parody form and en travesti, for audiences around the world. From February 10 – 12, Show One proudly presents the triumphant return of LES BALLETS TROCKADERO DE MONTE CARLO in Toronto, at the historic Winter Garden Theatre, 189 Yonge Street.

Prepare to explore the magical realm of swans (and birds) in a parody of Le Lac Des Cygnies (Swan Lake, Act II), a signature work of Les Ballets Trockadero, danced by Boris Nowitsky, Ashley Romanoff-Titwillow, Olga Supphozova, and Pepe Dufka. Once the swans have swam, Maria Paranova, Alla Snizova, and Dimitri Legupski will present a post-modern dance movement essay entitled Patterns in Space, followed by one of the most charming (and silly) evocations of Romantic Ballet in the 1840s, Le Grand Pas de Quatre danced by Lucille Grahn, Carlotta Grisi, Fanny Cerrito, Marie Taglioni, Katerina Bychkova, Nadezda Bogdownova, Vanya Verikosa, and Sveltlana Lofatkina. To bring the curtain down, THE TROCKS Company will perform Raymonda’s Wedding, a traditionally confusing divertissement in two scenes . . . Trocks style, of course!

LES BALLETS TROCKADERO DE MONTE CARLO is a company of professional male dancers who perform a full repertoire of ballet and modern dance, including classical and original works, in faithful renditions of the manners and conceits of each particular dance style. The comedy is achieved by incorporating and exaggerating the foibles, accidents, and underlying incongruities of serious dance, to the delight and amusement of the most knowledgeable, and novice, audiences.

“If you want to understand ballet, forget ‘Black Swan’ and go see the Trocks. These guys don’t only get what’s nutty about ballet; they show you what’s wonderful.”
Leigh Witchel, New York Post (December 15, 2010)
