“This is not just a fabulous evening of travesti, but a stupendous evening of classical dance and a stunning evening of theatre.”ballet.com.uk

“Leave your skepticism at the door. This is a blend of high art and serious camp, pairing physical virtuosity with comedy and wrapping the whole thing in ornate costumes, outrageous wigs and lots of attitude.” -Boston globe

Return to Toronto on the 10th anniversary  of their first sold-out run at the Elgin theatre!
January 19 & 20, 2008

For more than three decades, The Trocks have put their hearts and soles into playing prima ballerinas with all the ego, drama and glamour of the legendary ballets russes. But don’t underestimate The Trocks – new york’s infamous all-male troupe can expertly plié, porté and piqué with the best of them! Toronto has long been a regular stop for these darlings of the ballet world, and show one is proud to present Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carloon the tenth anniversary of their first sold-out run at the elgin theatre.

Thirty years ago, in a manhattan loft, a group of guys squeezed into pointe shoes and tutus and performed spoofs of their favourite ballets. Like Toronto’s own drowsy chaperone, this private joke was so successful it became a professional ballet company. Today, the trocks have an international following, and their parodies of classical ballet and modern dance are lauded as significant contributions to the ballet world. Just recently, the trocks added a rare petipa to their repertoire, the underwater scene from the humpback horse.

In 2006, for the first time in five years, The Trocks returned to london for two tours and won the critics’ circle national dance award for outstanding repertoire, classical division. The Trocks’ repertoire includes Don Quixote (act 1), Giselle (act 2), go for Barocco, Paquita, Les Sylphides, Stars and Stripes forever, and Swan Lake (act 2).

“Tarantella is one of The Trocks’ more academic works, in which their trademark physical comedy is slipped neatly between the cracks of an expert stylistic parody. At the other extreme is the pure nonsense of dying swan in a delicious study of shedding feathers, arthritic knees and eyelashes so burdensomely fake they keep swerving her off balance.” the Guardian

The Trocks have performed in over 500 cities in 33 countries worldwide. For all their galumphing humour, the trocks are seriously proficient ballet dancers, and the company is as knowledgeable and affectionate as ever about ballet history and manners.
