SHOW ONE ENTERTAINMENT Presents
TANGO FIRE
OCTOBER 21 & 22 • FOUR PERFORMANCES ONLY
Sales are Sizzling for the Hottest Show in T.O.!
Featuring ten torrid dancers and a quartet of young musicians, TANGO FIRE, the hottest Tango show from Buenos Aires, is on its way to Toronto! The Tango is Argentina’s gift to the world – evoking sensuality and intrigue, lust and provocation, raw energy and knife-edge precision.
Born in the brothels and taverns of Buenos Aires at the turn of the 20th century, Tango was the dance of the pimp, the fugitive, and the immigrants and country folk who were drawn to the economic promise of the capital. TANGO FIRE presents a breathless journey through the history of Tango, from its red-light origins through the roaring twenties to its current fascination on the world stage. Fuelled by the popularity of films like Shall We Dance and hit TV series Dancing with the Stars or So You Think You Can Dance?, Tango is all the rage again!
Estampas Porteñas was founded in Buenos Aires in 1996 by the distinguished Argentine ballerina,
Carolina Soler, widely known and celebrated for her dazzling portrayals of traditional classical ballet roles. With Estampas Porteñas, Soler returns to the dance form that is the heart and soul of her home country.
At the age of six, Carolina Soler commenced her studies in dance at the Lima Municipal Ballet, Peru. In 1972, she entered the Choreartium Association Ballet where she performed as a soloist in Swan Lake, Raymonda, Coppelia and Interplay, and as a principal ballerina in Suite en Blanc, Paquita, Hansel & Gretel, Nocturnal and Giselle, before completing her studies with masters such as Alexander Plissetky, Annel Vourenjuvry, Victori Roma and Yele Krnic. Awarded a scholarship in Buenos Aires, she studied with Olga Ferri, Gloria Kasda, Rodolfo Fontán and Esther Knavaia and undertook a partnering course with Ricardo Novich. In 1978, she joined the resident ballet of the Teatro Colon where she had the opportunity to perform all the major works of the classical repertoire, winning plaudits as a prima ballerina.
Her interest in Tango began when she performed Tango Dance with Raul Garello, resulting in the 1996 formation of Estampas Porteñas. Carolina has undertaken the role of choreographer, principal dancer and artistic director of the Company. Carolina has led Estampas Porteñas on tours to many countries including Taiwan, China, Guatemala, Mexico, New Zealand and Australia. For her wide-ranging artistic endeavours, Carolina has been honoured with the prestigious Adán Buenosayres Award.
Death-defying lifts, sudden drops, sensuous twists and turns … be seduced by TANGO FIRE!
