CRUST | Lior Tavori Dance Company
The original idea for CRUST was born approximately three years ago, in a short piece that sparked choreographer Lior Tavori’s curiosity about working with the physical element of a rug on stage, and the dancers’ relationship to it. A cast was assembled, contracts were signed, and rehearsals were scheduled to begin in early November 2023. Of course, no one knew then the reality in which the work would be created.
From the seed of an idea, and out of immense pain, a work was born that explores the boundaries between the personal and the political, between strength and vulnerability. A work that had to address movement not only as an artistic tool, but also as a means of processing—as therapy.

Israeli choreographer Lior Tavori is the founder and artistic director of Lior Tavori Dance Company, based in Tel Aviv. His work is characterized by passion, sensuality, and animalistic physicality, while exploring the boundaries of the dance medium through innovation, emotion, and technical precision.
In recent years, Tavori has created works for dance companies around the world, including Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, Bayerisches Staatsballett (Bavarian State Ballet), Teatro dell’Opera di Guanajuato, Chongqing Ballet, Qudus Onikeku / Q Dance, and Ballet Lisboa.
Tavori has created works for Israel’s Curtain Up Festival in 2019, 2020, and 2021. His works have received numerous awards in Israel and have been presented on stages around the world, including in China, Italy, Spain, the United States, Brazil, Mexico, Georgia, Taiwan, the Netherlands, Germany, and Portugal
